With how many backlinks should I rank well?

I was recently asked by many people who wonder how many backlinks I have for my own website. What makes this simple question so difficult to answer? I believe there are too many variables to be considered individually for each particular case. How many backlinks do I have? Well, again - it depends.  In fact, your own backlink score will always depend on many different aspects. I mean that, aside from your primary business goals, setting any exact targets for your backlinks is definitely a not-to-do thing. No need to set any goals, as any proper link building strategy should be consistent. e.g., as gradually and naturally as possible.
